Meghan's Story

When Megan Sinnott was 4 years old she experienced her first seizure, and her family was caught completely unaware. After overcoming that first frightful episode, the family began to learn more, and working with their neurologist finally got an appropriate daily medication, managed the side effects and got the seizures under control.

Feeling good, the family decided to take a vacation — not too far from home — just down the "Jersey shore." But when a breakthrough seizure occurred, they were again caught completely unaware.

When a Seizure Hit
"What do we do?" "Who do we call?" "Where's the closest emergency room?" "It's not stopping!" They did call their neurologist and did rush to a nearby emergency room. It turned out that Megan was alright, but family vacations took a serious hiatus after that.

Just recently, however, the Sinnotts' healthcare professional mentioned creating a personalized Seizure Preparedness Plan.

Their Seizure Preparedness Plan
After speaking with their doctor, the Sinnotts devised a Seizure Preparedness Plan, including the use of a DIASTAT® AcuDial™ (diazepam rectal gel, an at-home rescue medication for breakthrough seizures.

DIASTAT AcuDial is an added safeguard for breakthrough seizures when they are unable to reach the neurologist or not able to get to an emergency room.

Now Planning for Fun
Now, the Sinnotts are planning a vacation—to Orlando, Florida. They have the confidence they need to have a fun-filled, "normal" vacation. The family feels completely prepared for a breakthrough seizure and have even educated the family they are traveling with on seizure first aid
